2021 Family Ties Angus 8th Annual Bull & Heifer Sale

 We would like to take this time to welcome everyone to the 8th annual Family Ties Angus Bull and Female sale. We would also like to welcome Ockerman Simmentals. We are extremely excited and feel privileged to have them join our sale. We our very excited about the pen of bulls and heifers on offer this year. We truly feel this is the best group we have yet to bring to town. A very consistent set of bulls with the right BW and EPD numbers that will fit any herd. The bull and heifer offering will include Northline SIFI, SAV Renown, 5T Bag of Chips, and Etherington Sub Zero as well as some of our own home raised herdsires. We have taken our herd, culled the cows that did not work for us, put extreme attention to fertility, feet and utters. If the animal wouldn’t make it in the top of our herd then we would not offer them at our sale. We also have on offer 8 top end open Angus heifers with some of them coming from the spring calving group. These younger females are the type of females that you can start a very strong cow family from, we only offer the ones we would be willing to keep in our own herd.

As you go through the offering it does show that our cattle have moderate birth weights with explosive weaning weights. The EPD’s are second to none, as bulls purchased by you the breeders, will give you herd bulls to enhance your program and increase your dollar figure at sale time. The animals on offer can give the commercial cattleman bulls that will make weaning weights higher and can give the purebred breeders show stock if that is what they wish.

We also have 10 top end open Angus heifers from Family Ties Angus and Black Thunder Ranch. They are the type of females that you can start a very strong cow family from or take down the show road for a junior member.

We would like to take this time to welcome everyone to the 3nd Annual Family Ties Angus Bull and Female sale. While increasing our cow numbers and adding Red Angus to the Black Flerd, the decision to have our own sale became reality. That is why you will notice the name change from Family Affair to just Family Ties Angus.

We our very excited about the pen of bulls and heifers on offer this year. All the animals come from well respected AI sires as well as our own herdsires. We are very excited to offer these bulls to our valued buyers. Each of these bulls would find a place in our own herd and that is why we are offering them at our sale. We have a very attractive, well made set of yearling bulls and some very good 2yr olds that are ready to go out and help your herd.

The bull offering will include sires bloodlines like HF Tiger 5Tgrandsons, Net Worth 4200 sons, Sitz Upwards 307R grandsons, SAV Record Harvest sons, DMM Brylor Thump son, Red Six Mile Sakic 832S grandsons, Red Lonestone Pursuit 81W, Red Camwood Design and Red LFE RA Lewis 810Y sons, and daughters by these sires. As you go through the offering it does show that, great birth weights with explosive weaning weights. The EPDs also are second to none as these breeders will purchase and raise herd bulls that not only enhance their program but the figures as well.

We also have 8 top end open Angus heifers from Family Ties Angus. They are the type of females that you can start a very strong cow family from or take down the show road for a junior member. Also on offer will be a tremendous group of 20 open and 10 bred commercial heifers on offer from Gary Etherington Farms.

Family Ties Angus focuses their herd on good strong traits that will work in all cattle farms and help to improve the herd they will work for. Achieving this is done by tight guidelines on BW, WW, maternal instinct and making the feed put into the animals do the work. We cull our calves very hard at birth and again at weaning time, ensuring that only the bulls that will do the job remain on the farm. We pay close attention to hair coat, feet, testicular size and frame size on the animals we sell. If the bull wouldn’t work in our herd, we don’t want it in someone else’s. We have been born and raised around cattle and started raising purebreds about 9yrs ago. We have slowly increased our herd to 80 purebred black cows, by careful selection of replacement heifers and some herd dispersal buys. We bought Gordon Braithwaite’s herd in December of 2011 and in May of 2013 we bought Gord Rattray’s herd of black cows. This has given us some great bloodlines and cows that have proven themselves to be great mothers and raise champion bulls. 

In 2013 Samantha and I decided that we would like to expand our cow herd and introduce a diff erent color Angus, while keeping all the same goals and beliefs we have raised the blacks on for the last 8 yrs. We spent countless hours walking Red Angus aft er Red Angus herd, hand picking a select group of females to start our Red Angus herd with. In the end we ended up purchasing 30 Red Pairs from well known breeders such as Yolo Acres Red Angus, Carnwood Red Angus and Road House Red Angus Holdings. Most of the calves at side were females and late April calves that you will see sell as 2yr old red bulls next year. 

We AI about 35 cows per year and have been raising and purchasing herdsires to make our herd better. In 2012 we bought the high seller at the Standard Hill sale; a $10,000 Tiger son. We also use an Sitz Upward son we purchased from Gord Rattray for $7000. Looking to expand our bull off ering to include more Networth 4200 bloodlines to the sale we rented GGRR Networth 1U from Garnier Ranching, Gus Garnier. Th is bull was purchased from Gord Rattray, based out of Marwayne, AB.
